Position: English Teacher (IBDP, IGCSE, and Secondary Cambridge English)
Location: British School of Lomé, Togo
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: August 2025
Reports To: Head of Secondary
Overview:
The British School of Lomé seeks a dynamic and passionate English teacher to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will teach English at the IBDP, IGCSE, and Secondary Cambridge English levels. They will be responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment for all students, promoting academic excellence and supporting their personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Learning:
- Deliver high-quality lessons in English, following the IBDP, IGCSE, and Secondary Cambridge curricula.
- Design and implement engaging and effective lesson plans to develop students' language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback and adjusting teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs.
- Foster a passion for literature and language, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and independent study.
- Provide support for students preparing for their exams, guiding them through revision techniques and study skills.
- Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with the Head of Department and other colleagues to ensure the curriculum meets high academic standards and aligns with the needs of all students.
- Contribute to the development and review of teaching materials and resources, ensuring they are up-to-date and relevant.
- Assessment and Reporting:
- Prepare and administer assessments, track student performance, and keep records of progress.
- Provide detailed, accurate, and timely feedback to students, parents, and guardians.
- Participate in regular departmental meetings to discuss student progress and share best practices.
- Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with teaching strategies, educational technology, and curriculum changes.
- Participate in school-wide training and development activities as required.
- School Life and Pastoral Care:
- Actively contribute to the broader life of the school, supporting extra-curricular activities, school events, and initiatives.
- Provide pastoral care, offering guidance and support to students in both academic and personal matters.
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings, helping to build strong relationships between the school and families.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (a master’s degree or teaching qualification is preferred).
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching English at IBDP, IGCSE, and/or Cambridge Secondary levels.
- Knowledge of the IBDP, IGCSE, and Cambridge English curricula.
- Strong understanding of effective teaching methods and assessment strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students, creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
