Job Description: History and Geography Teacher - British School of Lomé
Position: History and Geography Teacher (IBDP, IGCSE, and Secondary Cambridge Geography)
Location: British School of Lomé, Togo
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Reports To: Head of Humanities, Head of Secondary
Overview:
The British School of Lomé is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated History and Geography teacher to join our vibrant team. The successful candidate will teach History and Geography at the IBDP, IGCSE, and Secondary Cambridge levels. Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Learning:
- Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in History and Geography, aligned with the IBDP, IGCSE, and Secondary Cambridge curricula.
- Design and implement lesson plans that promote active learning, critical thinking, and independent inquiry in History and Geography.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular and constructive feedback to help students improve their knowledge and skills.
- Foster students' understanding of historical events and geographical concepts, encouraging them to make connections between the past and present.
- Prepare students for their examinations through structured revision and study sessions.
- Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the curriculum meets academic standards and aligns with the needs and interests of students.
- Contribute to the creation and review of curriculum materials, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and up to date.
- Integrate cross-curricular links where appropriate, highlighting the connections between History, Geography, and other subjects.
- Assessment and Reporting:
- Prepare and deliver assessments to evaluate student progress in line with the IBDP, IGCSE, and Cambridge Geography specifications.
- Provide clear, timely, and actionable feedback to students, and maintain accurate records of student achievement.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress, attending parent-teacher meetings as required.
- Professional Development:
- Actively participate in professional development activities to stay current with the latest pedagogical strategies, developments in History and Geography, and changes to curriculum frameworks.
- Contribute to whole-school initiatives and attend relevant departmental meetings to share knowledge and best practices.
- School Life and Pastoral Care:
- Contribute to the extracurricular life of the school, supporting activities such as field trips, history and geography clubs, and school events.
- Provide pastoral care, offering guidance and support to students in both academic and personal matters.
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in History, Geography, or a related field (a teaching qualification or master’s degree is preferred).
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching History and/or Geography at IBDP, IGCSE, and/or Cambridge Secondary levels.
- Solid understanding of the IBDP, IGCSE, and Cambridge Geography curricula.
- Proven experience in fostering a love of learning and developing students’ critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
